Côte Bistro - Liverpool

Since flinging open its doors amid much fanfare in December 2014, Côte Bistro has set about triggering a dining revolution in Liverpool. Located in Eagle House on the city’s Paradise Street, in the former home of the world’s first US Consulate, the French brasserie-style restaurant is bookended by fellow eateries Jamie’s Italian and Salt House Tapas. The restaurant comprises indoor and outdoor seating areas, exuding the air of a Parisian restaurant to a tee. A nod is given to the building’s past though, in the form of a fibreglass replica of the consulate’s famous golden eagle, which is affixed to the wall. Indoors, a mix of marble-topped tables, wooden floors, red curtains, low-hanging lights and leather booths imparts just the right mood. But let’s get down to the nitty gritty: how’s the food? Food critics and the public at large would appear to be in unanimous agreement on this one: Côte Bistro is the bomb. Diners have been swift to cite the excellent value for money and plentifulness of the menu. The early evening menu offers two courses for just over a tenner, with three courses coming in around £13. A number of authentic French classics are on offer, with much of the produce imported from the home country itself – everything from corn-fed Brittany chicken and Charentais melons sourced from the famous Rungis Market in Paris. The specials change monthly, so there’s always a mouthwatering new dish to try when you pop back in. Finally, the wine list contains several French varieties: Fleurie 2014 La Bonne Dame, Chorey Les Beaune 2014 DomaineMaillard and Meursault 2012 Domaine Jean-Michel Gaunoux among them. If you’re seeking a quiet restaurant for a romantic, candlelit meal, Côte Bistro ticks all the right boxes.
